The mayoral gloves came off Thursday, as Somerville Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Melrose Mayor Robert Dolan faced off in a musical battle of municipal pride.
The contest, part of the station's My Song is Better Than Your Song competition.
Each contestant may have won their city's electorate over, but listener votes were the prize in this contest.
In one corner, Dolan, representing his bucolic suburb of tree-lined streets, stately lawns, and stable home prices.
"Sabotage," from the Beastie Boys.
In the other, Curtatone, leader of the 'ville, home to packed residential blocks, labrynthian streets, and artsy residents. For his city, Curtatone chose "Going Out in Style," by Boston band The Dropkick Murphys.
Votes were close, but Curtatone won with 110 votes to Dolan's 99, said WFNX's Henry Santoro, in a phone interview.
Dolan had been reigning champ for seven weeks. Now Curtatone will go up against a new challenger next Thursday.
