Current interim Melrose High School principal Marianne Farrell has been tapped for the job permanently, according to an announcement from Superintendent Cyndi Taymore.

"Marianne has an incredible depth of knowledge about Melrose High School, its strengths and challenges. Now she is using that experience to build a stronger Melrose High School and bring in the innovations our students need to be prepared for college and work in the 21st century," Taymore said in a statement.

The school has been without a permanent principal since Dan Richards left in June to become principal at Belmont High School. An 11-member search committee was formed in December that included an assistant superintendent, two department heads, two teachers, two parents, two students, one School Committee member, and one community member.

Farrell, who was previously an assistant principal at the high school, has served as interim principal since Richards left.

"Over the past nine months, Marianne has brought best practices found in many high performing districts to Melrose High School," Taymore's statement said. "... Marianne is active in professional organizations as well. She is active in the larger educational community and is bringing new ideas into the building daily."
