The following was submitted by the Polymnia Choral Society:

Polymnia Choral Society’s Pops Concert, Saturday, June 1,  will feature Broadway tunes, popular local tenor Joseph Holmes, Blue of a Kind, a jazz combo, and two Melrose teens, winners of Polymnia’s “Spotlight on High School Talent” contest.  The concert, under the direction of Murray Kidd, will be held at 7:30 pm, at Memorial Hall, 590 Main Street, Melrose.

"I am very excited about this concert. It will feature many hits from shows like Hair, Les Miserables, Chicago, and Anything Goes. Joseph Holmes, a Wakefield native, will be our featured soloist and he is amazing!  The performance level in this year's Spotlight on High School Talent is extraordinary, too. Lilah Drafts-Johnson will be performing her own song, “Not for Me.”  She is a very talented singer and songwriter. Isabelle Miller is also a very talented young singer who sings with great emotional depth and maturity.  She is not to be missed!   Several of our members will be singing solos throughout the evening, as well.  It promises to be a great evening."

Joseph Holmes is a graduate of New England Conservatory and Oberlin Conservatory. He has sung in Europe as one of the Three American Tenors and with the Boston Lyric Opera, the Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Bel Canto Opera, and Opera Boston. In 2010, Holmes was inducted into the Wakefield Memorial High School Alumni Foundation Hall of Fame.

Polymnia is supported in part by a grant from the Melrose Cultural Council, a local agency funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and by the Melrose Messina Fund for the Arts.

Tickets are $30 for table seats, $25 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $5 for children 12 and under.  They can be purchased in Melrose at Sweet Thoughts, 504 Main St., Miter Biter Frame Co, 479 Main Street, or on line at www.polymnia.org.
