The following was submitted by Roosevelt School PTO Betterment/Playground:

Thanks to your hard work and financial contributions, the Roosevelt Elementary School PTO is proud to announce that we have met our fundraising goal for the new playground! This year alone, the Roosevelt community has raised over $25,000 for the playground. This is in addition to the $19,000 that the PTO has contributed from prior year funds.

As you know, we have been engaged in a multi-year effort to create a larger, better and more accessible playground system that will encourage outdoor play for all students.  We are very grateful for the generous financial support of our partners in this effort: the City of Melrose and the Zinck Family, with proceeds from the Amazing Grace Golf Tournament.

Most of all, this shared effort is a testament to the dedication, financial contributions and hard work of so many of you.  Whether you and your children gathered "Pennies for the Playground," attended a dine-out fundraiser (or many!), contributed design ideas, purchased a brick for your family or a beloved teacher, or did Melrose Boot Camp on the Melrose High School football field, you made a contribution.  The playground is your success.

We would like to especially thank the members of the PTO Playground Committee. The 15 members of this committee, including parents, Principal Basile and the entire PTO Board, have been working diligently on this project for over a year!

The best news of all: demolition and installation work on the playground is slated to begin in July, and the playground should be complete sometime in August!  Stay tuned this summer for more information about the Grand Opening!
