Big band orchestra to play at town green Tuesday
One of the last town band concerts of the summer and a big town favorite -- Ken Lodge and the Baron Hugo Orchestra -- will be played on Tuesday.
The popular summer concert series was likely to be cancelled in 1993 because of budget constraints when Brian A. Joyce, then Milton’s park commissioner, went to area businesses and civic groups for sponsorships. Joyce, now a state senator, himself has traditionally sponsored the orchestra group, a longtime Milton favorite, while other residents and organizations have stepped up to offer others.
During the concert, representatives of the nonprofit group Cradles to Crayons will be seeking donations of clothing and essentials for distribution to low-income and homeless children around Massachusetts. Items that are specifically needed are children’s clothing in sizes 0-20 and adult clothing in sizes small, medium, and large.
For more information, visit the Cradles to Crayons’ website at http://www.cradlestocrayons.org, or contact Melanie Collins at melanie@cradlestocrayons.org.
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Gazebo on the Town Green at the Town Hall, 525 Canton Ave. Refreshments will be served. In case of rain, cancellation information is available after 4 p.m. by calling 617-898-4940.
The last concert of the summer, featuring Pauline Wells with the Boston Irish Country Band DEVRI, is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29. That concert is sponsored by The Copeland Family Foundation.
