Explore Japan, a Milton-based summer exchange program for Japanese and American students, will host boys and girls ages 8 to 16-years-old for two weeks this summer and is seeking host families.

Steve Shapiro, a Milton resident, developed Explore Japan more than 18 years ago and continues to run the program, though the organization is operated through the nonprofit American Learning, Inc.

The Japanese students will participate in activities at Pierce Middle School and Milton High, a news release said. Activities at the school will include workshops about the Japanese language, arts and crafts, cooking, martial arts, and calligraphy.

Area residents who have hosted students previously include families from Sharon, Milton, Braintree, Canton, Quincy, Stoughton, Walpole, Westwood, Weymouth, Dedham, and Hingham.

Aside from the activities at the school, participants will attend field trips to the Museum of Fine Arts, Fenway Park, and a Boston Harbour Cruise.

For more information about becoming a host family or the Explore Japan, contact American Learning at 781-828-2800 or visit www.americanlearning.com.
