Months of planning and fund-raising will come to a head this week as Milton kicks off its 350th anniversary celebration Friday night with a fireworks show at Milton High School.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, the night will include a fireworks show synchronized to music, food for sale, and performances by the Milton High School concert and jazz bands. Fireworks will start at 9:15 p.m.

Gile Road will be closed once the high school parking lots are filled; however, parking will be available at Ulin Rink, Town Hall, and Pierce Middle School. If it rains, the fireworks show will be moved to either Saturday or June 16, according to a news release from the town.

On Saturday, a Milton High School “All Years Alumni” homecoming celebration will start at 8:30 a.m. at the field house. All graduates of Milton High are invited to attend and should e-mail 350thalumnievent@gmail.com.

Then at 1:45 p.m., a giant American flag will be raised at the town gazebo, and at 2 p.m. the celebration parade will begin at Milton High. The parade being called “the biggest parade in Milton history” will last two hours and end at Cunningham Park.

After the parade, the high school will have a stage set up, family game activities, food for sale, face painting, and hospitality tents. Then at 6 p.m. there will be a band and drum corps concert.

On Sunday, there will be a “Union Service” held at 10:30 a.m. at both First Parish Church and First Congregational Church on Canton Avenue. A townwide picnic will start at noon on the town green, and a 350th anniversary cake will be served to all attendees.

A community choir concert featuring choirs from Milton churches will start at 3 p.m. in the First Parish sanctuary.

And finally on Monday, a Milton history bowl will be held at the high school from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. featuring eight teams of “local experts” battling for a trophy.
