The teen services department at the Milton Public Library will host a back-to-school event for junior high students on Sept. 5 at 3:30 p.m.

After snacking on pizza and hearing a presentation by library staff about what the teen services department offers during the school year, students can participate in a scavenger hunt that will lead them through “the library’s physical and virtual spaces,” a news release said.

“We’re very close to Pierce, so it’s common to get a big junior high crowd in the Teen Space after school,” Young Adult Librarian Emily Calkins said.

The scavenger hunt is open to all junior high students from both public and private schools in the area and is being sponsored by the Friends of the Milton Public Library.

Calkins said she hopes the event will give students a chance to explore the library and be a fun way to welcome new and returning students to the teen services department.

“This event is a fun opportunity to welcome our returning regulars, introduce new students to the library’s collections and programs, and review our expectations about library behavior,” she said.

The library regularly holds teen-themed events and clubs throughout the school year and this year will be introducing new activities geared specifically toward middle and high school students.

The Milton Public Library is located at 476 Canton Ave.
