The Milton Reads program, the Forbes House Museum, the Milton Public Library, the Milton Players, the Amateur Gardeners of Milton, and the Milton Garden Club will all co-host a “Southern High Tea” Oct. 6 as part of the town-wide reading of the book “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

The 1960 book follows the experience of a black man named Tom Robinson, accused of raping a white woman, and is commonly read in middle and high schools. A movie based on the book was made in 1962.

Participants at the event will be treated to sweet tea and baked goods while actors from the Milton Players read excerpts from the book.

The garden clubs will provide floral arrangements, galleries, porches, and tables. In addition, guest will receive complimentary passes for a future tour of the Forbes House Museum.

The event will be held Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. and will cost $35 per person. Advanced registration is required.

To reserve a spot, contact Rebecca Wright at 617-696-1815 by Oct. 3.
