The town of Milton will begin its annual fall water main flushing program the week of Sept. 24, and residents should expect some water discoloration during that time.

Work will be done during the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day until the program is completed.

According to a notice from the town, water main flushing is a way to improve water quality and is “an important part of a water distribution system maintenance program.”

Water discoloration is caused by dissolved iron and is not a public health threat.

Residents who experience discoloration are advised to run cold water for several minutes until it is clear.
