Milton Town Meeting members approved two articles that bring the town one step closer to demolishing a condemned building at 131 Eliot St.
Selectmen have been working to demolish the building for several months but did not have enough cash in the reserve fund to finance the work until Town Meeting approved Articles One and Four Monday night.
Article One called for the town to appropriate $198,278 into the reserve fund for the eventual use of the demolition. Article Four granted the warrant committee the ability to use said funds for the demolition.
Both articles were passed with a majority vote after about two hours of discussion and one failed amendment.
Article Two passed unanimously and appropriates $485,000 for the rehabilitation, replacement, and enhancement of the sewer system.
Article Three, which reduced the appropriations outlined in the town budget approved in May, was also passed unanimously without any discussion or questions.
Articles five and six, both relating to zoning, will be discussed at the continuation of the meeting next Monday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. at the high school, 25 Gile Rd.
A copy of the full warrant is available on the town website.
