Milton Public Schools recently announced that its search for a new elementary reading, language arts, and social studies coordinator is over and that position will be filled by two people - Martha Winokur and Cynthia Smith.

According to a memo from the superintendent’s office, Winokur previously worked as a senior project manager and the director of elementary school partnerships at the Teaching and Learning Alliance Inc. She is currently a literary specialist in Needham and worked in similar capacities in Westwood, Providence, and Boston.

Smith also previously worked at the Teaching and Learning Alliance Inc. but as a program director. Prior to her position there, she was a consultant to the New York City board of education and department of youth services and a teacher.

Superintendent Mary Gormley said in a statement that both women would benefit the district in the position and that she was excited to announce the news.

“The position will be filled by two extraordinary educational professionals who bring much experience and talent with them to the Milton Public Schools, she said.
