The final event of Milton Reads!, a townwide reading program, will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at First Parish in Milton. This year, residents read "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, and dozens of related events have been held during the last few months.
Tonight’s event will feature Milton High School students reading passages from the book. Carmen Ortiz, a Milton resident and US attorney for the District of Massachusetts, will give a presentation. Joyful Voices of Inspiration will also perform gospel music.
A reception will follow the performances and attendees should bring suggestions for next year’s book.
According to a news release from Superintendent Mary Gormley, the Friends of the Library sold 140 copies of the book and about 100 students participated in the various related programs, groups, and film showings that have occurred over the past few months.
Tonight’s event is free and open to everyone. First Parish in Milton is located at 535 Canton Ave.
