First Parish Milton on Friday will screen a film featuring a couple who left their young children in Wellesley to help save Jewish children during the Holocaust.

“Two Who Dared: The Sharps’ War,” tells the story of Waitstill and Martha Sharp, an American Unitarian minister and his wife who went on a life-threatening mission to Europe to save Jewish people during World War II.

The film is part of a grassroots, community-based effort with screenings at churches, synagogues, theaters, and schools during April 7 to 18 in recognition of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The documentary is told from the point of view of the Sharps, who left Wellesley shortly before the German invasion of Czechoslovakia. Director Artemis Joukowsky III was inspired by the stories of his own grandparents, who worked to rescue refugees and oppose the Nazi regime during the war.

The screening will take place at 7 p.m. Friday in the Parish Hall, where light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and open to the public.
