The town?s annual Memorial Day activities begin Monday, when the new veterans agent, Paul Carew, and a few volunteers will place wreaths at Natick?s 40 squares and memorials honoring veterans.
On Wednesday, the ceremonial transfer of flags will happen at Kennedy Junior High School at 7 p.m. On Thursday, volunteers will meet at Dell Park Cemetery on Pond Street at 6:30 p.m. to place flags on the 3,000 graves of Natick veterans. On Saturday, volunteers will meet at the cemetery at 8:30 a.m. to decorate graves with geraniums, and at noon the square at the intersection of Lincoln Street Extension and Chester Street will be dedicated to the five Grassey brothers, who served in World War II and the Korean War and are now deceased.
On Memorial Day, May 31, a parade will step off from Moran Park at 8:30 a.m. and head to the Town Common for a ceremony featuring retired Colonel Dorothy Johnson. The parade will then wend its way to Davis Square, which will be dedicated to William Leroy, a second lieutenant who was shot down over the English Channel during World War II. The parade ends at the Indian Burial Ground at 11:45 a.m., and will be followed by a gathering at the American Legion hall on West Central Street.
