Scarecrows from a previous year's competition line up in Natick.

Area residents can compete in the third annual Scarecrow Contest, sponsored by the Charles River Coffee House in Natick, from now until Oct. 31, according to competition organizers.

Voting will take place until Nov. 4. A prize of $100 cash and a $50 Coffee Shop gift certificate will be awarded to the "Best of Show" scarecrow.

There will be categories for youth, adults, group, family, and business, with prizes for “Best Traditional Scarecrow” and “Best Alternative Scarecrow” within each category.

Registration is $10 for individuals and groups, and $25 for businesses. All proceeds benefit Natick's Bacon Free Library.

Scarecrows will be propped up against the historic iron fence outside of the library at 58 Eliot St. in Natick.

Registration rules and further information are available at both the Charles River Coffee Shop, located at 57 Eliot St. in Natick, or at the Bacon Free Library.
