Commuters and St. Patty's partygoers, rejoice: toll plazas on the Massachusetts Turnpike will be free for travelers passing through the Allston/Brighton, Natick, and Weston toll plazas (exits 13, 15 and 19) on Friday, March 15 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The tolls will be sponsored by Cumberland Farms, according to the state transportation department. The company will also pay for signage and promotional handouts.

Cash customers must still stop at the toll plaza. E-ZPass holders will receive a credit on their monthly statement and details about Cumberland Farms' SmartPay program, which allows customers to pay for gas and in-store items using their mobile phone.

“Finding valuable ways to give back to our motorists is part of MassDOT’s commitment to customer service,” said Richard Davey, the state transportation's secretary and CEO, in a statement. “We are pleased to partner with Cumberland Farms on this toll sponsorship.”

Cumberland Farms is also offering a promotion where customers who complete a free online enrollment process at cumberlandfarms.com/smartpay will automatically save 10 cents on every gallon of gas every day.

In 2012, state officials logged approximately 12,000 toll transactions at the sponsored plazas on the Friday before St. Patrick’s Day.
