Former Patriot and Boston College football player Doug Flutie has put his custom-built lavish Natick estate on the market for $1.7 million, after he and his wife moved to Florida permanently in January, according to his sister in law and real estate agent Terri Flutie.
"It's a pretty special house," she said. "It's the biggest in Natick that I’ve seen."
The 10,000 square foot home at 22 Chieftain Ln. features six bedrooms, five full and two half bathrooms, and a three-car garage.
But the luxurious features don't stop there.
Flutie's home also boasts a full-size basketball court, an in-ground heated pool and hot tub, and a heated driveway, "which is nice to have in those crazy winter months," she said.
Flutie custom-built the home in 1995, his sister said, although she was not sure what type of budget he was working under.
"This is everything they ever wanted in a house," she said. "They're sad to see it go."
The gated estate went up on the market a month ago, she said, which gave the star athlete and his family time to sort through belongings in the house.
Now, when the Flutie family comes back to visit Massachusetts, they will probably stay in hotels, or look to buy a condominium locally in the future, Terri said.
"They loved being in Natick," she said. "Their kids grew up in Natick, and even Laurie and Doug went to high school in Natick. It's tough for them to leave, and they come back all the time, since their foundation is here, and they have events. They're also big Red Sox fans, so they love to come back and catch games."
According to Natick land records, Flutie's estate is assessed at $1.56 million.
An open house is scheduled for this Sunday, June 2, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Any interested parties can view the listing online, or call Terri Flutie at 508-308-0200.
