Students, teachers and parents celebrated the dedication of a new, seven-panel mural Friday in a school-wide assembly at the John Eliot Elementary School.
Mural artist Joshua Winer worked with students, teachers and parents to design and paint the mural, which is called The Seven Wonders of the Eliot School. The mural depicts students representing seven themes: art, community, environment, scholarship, literacy, diversity and generosity.
Winer took input from parents and teachers, then guided students through painting the scenes on five-foot by six-foot plywood panels for five months before installing them above the main lobby in late May. The mural cost more than $17,000 to complete, and was made possible by a grant from the Needham Education Association and fundraising by the Parent Teacher Council.
