What do you think of student tracking?

Posted June 9, 2009 11:11 AM

Many public schools assign students to different academic "tracks" based on ability. What's wrong with tracking? Do schools start too early or stick to a student's assigned place too stubbornly? What's right with tracking? How else would we efficiently teach students with different abilities? How does tracking help and harm students? Are you a teacher or parent willing to comment on the pros and/or cons of tracking students? If so, please contact reporter Lisa Kocian at 508-820-4231 or lkocian@globe.com.

  1. I have a real problem with the state gathering and maintain these types of records. From an overall perspective, this type of data can and should be nameless or destroyed after high school.
If test data were always accurate, then many of the great men and women thinkers and creators would have be pigeonholed.
The great part of being an American is that data in quantitative terms does not define us...out actions do.
