Needham Youth Services accepting award nominations
Needham Youth Services is now accepting nominations for the Patrick C. Forde Good Person Memorial Award. The award is designed to recognize a Needham adult who helps make the community a better place through volunteer work.
Residents are urged to nominate a person who has contributed in a significant way to Needham children, youth, or families. The organization is looking for a person of high character who enhances the lives of people with whom he or she has interacted.
“We give the award to honor the adults who contribute to making Needham a really nice place for our youth,” said Jon Mattleman, director of Needham Youth Services.
Mattleman said the award is named after Patrick C. Ford, who died in 2005, because “he was a really good person who gave a lot to the Youth Services department and gave a lot to the youth in this community.”
The past recipients of the award are Clyde “Solar Sam” Weihe, who teaches Needham youth about solar energy; Connie Barr, a community activist and youth advocate; and Richard Remnitz, who helped create a youth center in the town.
