On Nov. 15, the Needham Historical Society will recognize a woman who made cycling famous long before Lance Armstrong was born.
Annie Londonderry embarked on a cycling journey around the world in 1894, and her great-grandnephew, Needham resident Peter Zheutlin, will take people on her journey as he shares the stories of her adventure, according to an event release.
The presentation will also cover the bike craze that hit Needham and the rest of the nation in the 1890s.
The event, "Around the World on Two Wheels: Annie Londonderry's Extraordinary Ride," is sponsored by the Needham Historical Society and Needham Bikes, and will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Historical Society, 1147 Central Avenue.
The program is free for members of the Historical Society and $5.00 for non-members. Refreshments will be served
