Needham boys and girls basketball teams going to MIAA playoffs

The Needham boy's basketball team will face off against North Quincy Tuesday in the first round of the MIAA tournament, under match-ups set by the MIAA on Friday.

Needham is seeded 16, and North Quincy 17, in the Division 1 south sectionals. They play at 7 pm Tuesday at Needham.

The Needham girls, seeded 20th, will play Madison Park Monday at 7 pm, at Madison Park.

In other sports news, Needham fell to Malden Catholic in boys hockey on Thursday, losing 3-1.

Brendan Collier tallied two shorthanded goals to push the No. 1 Lancers (16-2-2) to the Cathedral Tournament title.

Malden Catholic beat Needham in the first round of last season’s Super 8 tournament, and fans were hoping the game would bring the Rockets into the prestigious Super 8 tournament this year.

MIAA match-ups for hockey will be announced Saturday.
