The Town of Needham has offered residents tips on staying cool amidst the recent heat wave.

Listed on its website are nine suggestions for protecting oneself against the heat’s potential dangers, including avoiding too much exposure to the sun and extreme temperature changes, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities, wearing loose-fitting and light-colored clothing that covers the maximum amount of exposed skin, taking cool baths and showers, drinking plenty of water and avoiding carbonated beverages, and never leaving children or pets unattended in closed vehicles.

The town instructs residents to call 911 in case of breathing troubles or rapid increases in body temperature, which may be symptoms of heat stroke or exhaustion.
