Needham selectmen voted Tuesday to award liquor licenses to five businesses under a new law allowing retail sales of alcohol in town, according to selectman Moe Handel.
In November, residents voted to allow stores to sell alcohol for the first time. In the past, only restaurants and the Sheraton Needham Hotel were allowed to serve alcohol.
The board had the option of awarding six licenses, but chose to hold off on the last one, said Handel.
“We haven’t taken a position on when we grant that license,” said Handel. “We did want to have one license held at least until we can see how this all works out.”
Ten businesses were vying for the licenses. A list of the five that the board voted on are below, courtesy of Needham Town Hall, along with their addresses.
