The Needham War Memorial Committee is asking for donations for a granite war monument to be installed at Memorial Park.

The granite monument would be inscribed with the 97 names of Needham residents who died in combat, reaching back to the Revolutionary War. Currently, there is no memorial in town for the Needham soldiers who have died in battle, the committee said.

The group needs to raise $40,000 by Jan. 15 in order to install the monument by Memorial Day next year, which is May 26. Currently, the group has raised $1,900, according to the committee's website.

"Please join us in recognizing the ultimate sacrifice these individuals made so we can continue to enjoy the freedom, liberty and democracy that is the framework of our great country," committee members wrote on the website.
