The Newton Firefighters will be holding their annual Charity Hockey Game this Sunday at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Organized by Newton Firefighter Brian McNamara, this year the charity will benefit the Mass. General Hospital Burn Unit.

"It's a great family day for a great benefit," said McNamara. "We had a big turnout last year, and hope this will even be bigger."

McNamara knows first hand the level of care provided by the MGH Burn Unit. His father, Lt. Ray McNamara, was severely injured in the Stark chemical fire on October 25, 1993 .

“The tireless commitment and dedication of the MGH Burn Unit goes unparalleled,” said McNamara. “The nurses and staff go through life without any recognition for their efforts. There are three ingredients to surviving something so devastating; a will to live; love & support from friends and family; and the people that work the Burn Unit.”

Tickets are $20.00. Ticket includes reserved function room throughout the event serving free pizza, sandwiches, soda, and water. Cash bar is available.

Said McNamara, "The Lowell Devils have been great to us, opening up their arena and their private function room for this benefit. It's something the Newton Fire Department looks forward to doing every year. We can't wait to get back."

The game is Sunday, March 29th at 2:00 p.m. with a Devils’ game at 4:00.
