Mayor congratulates environmental essay and art contest winners
In his weekly press conference Mayor David Cohen offered his congratulations to five winners of the third annual Green Decade Coalition's Energy Art and Essay contest.
More than 150 students entered this years contests, with 130 in art and 40 in the essay contest (the math shows that some students entered both). The elementary school winners were Adela Clare Miller, a fourth grader at Mason-Rice Elementary, for art and Rebecca Lzinski, a fifth grader at Franklin Elementary for the essay contest.
Both the art and essay contest in the middle school was won by Leah Abercrombie, and to make the Abercrombie family even more proud, Leah's sister, Michelle Abercrombie, was the winner of the high school essay contest. Nicole Repina was the high school winner of the art contest.
"The Green Decade's goal is that this annual essay and art contest will inspire Newton residents of all ages to conserve more resources, especially those that cannot be easily replenished," Cohen said. "Congratulations to all the young winners, and know that environmentalism is a lifetime vocation."
