Edible seedling sale at Angino Farm

Posted May 12, 2009 11:55 AM

The Newton Angino Community Farm, the only farm left in Newton, will sell seedlings at its 303 Nahanton St. location from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 17.

"This is a great year to grow vegetables at home," said Peter Barrer, the board president of Newton Community Farm Inc. "The sale is a great way to get started. We'll give demonstrations on transplanting and we offer a wide variety of seedlings."

The sale will include vegetables like tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, broccoli, and more.

Mayor David Cohen said he was excited for the event, but that it took some explaining that you couldn't eat the seeds.

"When I heard it was an edible seed sale, I thought that you could eat the seeds," Cohen said. "Peter [Barrer] had to explain to me that you have to plant the seeds to get something you can eat."
