Goodbye Sheraton, hello Crowne Plaza.

The Sheraton Hotel at Newton Corner is now a Crowne Plaza hotel.

The conversion took place May 14 and this week crews were changing the signage at the prominent location atop the never ending traffic of the Mass Pike. "The Crowne Plaza will undergo $10 million in renovations, including changes to the carpets, wallpaper, windows and furniture,'' IHG, the owners, said in a release.

"Boston is considered the economic and cultural center of the region, and there are many local businesses, medical facilities and educational institutions surrounding the Newton hotel, making it an ideal location for a Crowne Plaza," said Gina LaBarre, vice president, Brand Management, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts, and the Americas.

According to the release, "The Newton location joins three Crowne Plaza properties in the Boston area including: Boston-Natick, Nashua and Worcester-Downtown.''

  1. I remember as a kid riding my bike up and down the parking garage elevator when it was Ho-Jo's in the 1970's. Used to be the crown jewel of Newton, its definitley time for a facelift!
