Zakim has summit with governor

Shari Zakim met with Governor Deval Patrick Monday to discuss concerns with Boston cab drivers and their obligation to pick up all fares.

Zakim and a group of her friends attempted to hail a taxi early on Jan. 1, only to see several empty taxis speed by. When a taxi finally stopped, a Top Cab taxi, according to the wheelchair-bound Zakim, the driver took one look at her before driving away as well.

Top Cab ironically bears the image of the Zakim Bridge, named after Zakim's father, Leonard Zakim, a civil rights activist.

Zakim, a 2004 graduate of Newton North, had previously met with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, in addition to penning a letter to the Globe.
