A man who claimed to have a firearm robbed a Bank of America branch in Waban today, leading to the temporary lockdown of a nearby Newton elementary school, Newton police said.

No one was hurt during the robbery, which took place shortly before 10 a.m. today. No students were injured.

The Albert Angier elementary school on Beacon Street was locked down as a precaution as police searched the neighborhood for the bank robber who fled on foot with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police described the robber as a white male, 20 to 25 years old, with facial acne and a bandage on his chin. He was about six feet tall with a slender build and was wearing sunglasses, a black puffy jacket and black stocking cap, police said.

Police continue to search for the suspect.
