About 125 vehicles have been broken into in Newton since Jan. 1, the Police Department announced today.
Police said 61 percent of the vehicles had unlocked doors, 38 percent had their windows smashed in, and 1 percent had their doors pried open or opened by other means.
Items stolen from the vehicles included purses, GPS devices, laptop computers, and loose change.
“We are again reminding vehicle owner’s to lock your vehicle, remove anything of value, along with any purses, wallets, briefcases, jewelry, money laptops, cell phones, GPS devices and any mounts or suction cups associated with them and to wipe the area of circles caused by the suction cups,” the department said in a press release.
The police are asking that anyone who sees or hears anything suspicious or believes a crime is being committed call 911 in an emergency, or call (617) 796-2100 if it is not an emergency. The anonymous Tips-Line is: (617) 796-2121
