As Tuesday’s deadline for submitting candidacy papers passed, six contested races emerged for Newton’s Board of Aldermen and School Committee on the November ballot.

There are three races for Alderman at Large and three for School Committee, according to Craig A.J. Manseau, executive secretary of the Newton Election Commission.

Alderman at large is a citywide ballot, with two candidates elected from each ward. Candidates needed to get at least 150 signatures to be eligible. The contested races are:

Ward 1: Carleton Merrill (incumbent), Allan Ciccone, Jr. (incumbent), Janet Sterman

Ward 6: Victoria Danberg (incumbent), Charles Shapiro (incumbent), Greg Schwartz

Ward 8: David Kalis, Tom Sheff, Mitchell Fischman (incumbent)

One School Committee candidate will be elected from each ward on the citywide ballot. Candidates needed at least 150 signatures to be eligible. The contested races are:

Ward 2: Jonathan Yeo (currently a member from Ward 4), Margaret L. Albright

Ward 4: Diana Fisher Gomberg, Josh Krintzman

Ward 5: Susan Rosenbaum (incumbent), Steven Seigel

Anyone seeking office can still withdraw from the ballot by Aug. 9.
