Newton grad earns shot with soccer Aztecs
The Aztecs, 8-2-3 entering the championships, were defeated, 3-0, by the Orange County Waves.
The team serves as the reserve squad for the Boston Breakers, the local Women’s Professional Soccer franchise.
‘‘Alessia and I had a conversation following the end of last season, and she expressed a desire to continue to play at a high level,’’ said Wheaton College head women’s soccer coach Luis Reis. ‘‘The rest was up to her. She trained with them and was ecstatic when they offered her a spot. She’s very persistent, and had a great experience playing for them.’’
A two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America selection (2008, 2010), Viscomi graduated in May as one of the most successful and accomplished athletes in the Norton school’s history.
Viscomi helped lead the Lyons to four NCAA Division 3 tournament berths, and reached the second round on three occasions. She was named to both the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference All-Conference Team and the NSCAA All-New England squad all four years of her college career, and was a three-time New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association All-New England selection.
