Bruce Proia will be become Newton's new fire chief Wednesday at a swearing-in ceremony at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall.

Proia, a 33-year veteran of the Newton Fire Department, will be sworn in along with Paul Chagnon, who will take over the assistant chief position.

Proia will take over for former fire chief Joseph LaCroix, who has been officially retired since July 31.

n attendance, will be Setti Warren, Newton Mayor, Stephen Coan, Massachusetts State Fire Marshal, and members of the Newton Fire Department.
