Newton Mayor Setti Warren says he won't join the race for the Fourth Congressional seat now that US Representative Barney Frank has announced his retirement at the end of this term.

Warren, a Democrat, ran for the US Senate seat currently held by Republican Scott Brown, but pulled out of that contest in October.

"I will not be running for Congress," said Warren. "I'm just focused on what's in front of us here in Newton right now. In the coming months I'll certainly be speaking to that."

Warren said he will miss Frank a great deal, particularly his advocacy and dedication to public service.

"He's been a real champion for equal opportunity for people across the Commonwealth and the United States," said Warren. "He's been a fighter for the middle class and he certainly has stood with us mayors and local elected officials, in ensuring that we enhance the quality of life here in Newton and other communities in the district and beyond."
