Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio is coming to Newton the evening of Monday, Nov. 26 to discuss his new book, "A Mindful Nation: How a simple practice can help us reduce stress, improve performance, and recapture the American Spirit."

According to the public school district, Ryan is active in the field of mindfulness, keeping a daily mindfulness meditation practice, advocating mindfulness practice as a means for addressing the variety of complex problems facing the nation, and helping get mindfulness and social and emotional learning programs established in several schools in his district.

He has also spearheaded a medical school conference on mindfulness-based stress reduction during his tenure in the House of Representatives.

Ryan will share the stories of how he first encountered mindfulness, and what he continues to encounter and learn while traveling the country and speaking with people from all walks of life engaged in the practice and work of mindfulness.

The event is a collaborative effort sponsored by Newton Community Education (NCE), The Center For Mindfulness in Health Care, and Society and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

For more information or to register for the talk, call NCE at 617-559-6999, or visit www.newtoncommunityed.org.
