The City of Newton on Wednesday will join communities across the country and the world in mourning the victims of the tragic shooting last week in Newtown, Connecticut.
The City invites all residents to gather for a vigil on Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. in the War Memorial on the second floor of Newton City Hall, 1000 Commonwealth Ave., in remembrance of those whose lives were lost.
The service will feature remarks from Mayor Setti Warren and David Fleishman, Superintendent of Newton Public Schools. It will also include readings from an interfaith representation of Newton clergy members and musical performances.
As part of the event, the City is asking attendees to bring cards, letters, or notes in unsealed envelopes to members of the Newtown community. The letters will be collected and sent at the end of the week. A collection box will also be inside the main entrance to Newton City Hall, where letters can be dropped off through the end of the day Friday, Dec. 21.
