Afternoon fire displaces four families in Newton

Newton firefighters have put out a fire at 25 Charlesbank Road that displaced four families and caused minor injuries to a plumber who at the scene, Lt. Bruce Apotheker, a police spokesman said.

The fire tore through a four-unit building around 2 p.m. and firefighters put the blaze out before 3:30 p.m.

Police closed Charlesbank Road, between St. James Street and Nonantum Road, and that portion of the road remains closed, Apotheker said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no other injuries, Apotheker said.

The plumber suffered injuries to his hands, Apotheker said.
