Newton residents should continue to stay indoors as authorities continue to search for the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, Newton's police chief said late Friday afternoon in an automated phone call to residents.
The "stay indoors notice" remains in effect until further notice, but that doesn't mean residents should not return to their homes, Chief Howard Mintz said. Although the MBTA is shut down, residents can drive, take taxis, or be driven home by others.
Travel restrictions may be present on some roadways, Mintz said. Residents and businesses should continue to monitor local media for further information.
