Rowers will “take off” at Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s 8th Annual ERG Marathon on April 15.

Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) will hold its 8th annual ERG Marathon on Monday, April 15, according to a press release.

Participants will “take off” on stationery ERG rowing machines lined up in front of the Hospital to raise funds for the High Risk Assessment Program at the Auerbach Breast Center.

Organized by Fred Millham, M.D., chair of surgery, the 2012 event raised over $10,000 for this important program and was the largest ever, with 105 rowers rowing 26.2 miles in teams or individually on 39 stationary rowing machines.

Since its inception in 2006, the event has raised almost $60,000 to help prevent breast and ovarian cancer for those at highest risk.

This year, rowers are expected from Belmont Hill School, Noble and Greenough School, The Winsor School, UMass Lowell, Community Rowing Inc., Newton-Wellesley Hospital, and others, as well as several individual rowers. Olympia Moving & Storage helped in logistical support and Gustin Advertising in design assistance.

For more information on how to participate or to support the event, go to www.nwh.org/rowing or www.facebook.com/ergmarathon.
