The following is a press release from the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce.
The Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its 2014 scholarship awards. The scholarship recognizes outstanding high school seniors residing in Newton or Needham or attending a Newton or Needham high school who succeed scholastically while simultaneously giving back to their community.
This year, the award has increased by fifty percent, allotting for two $1,500 awards for college-bound seniors attending an accredited college/university in the fall of 2014. The scholarship is applied towards tuition upon successful completion of their first semester.
“The Chamber has been seeking ways to increase scholarships to reduce student stress in figuring out how to make college possible” said Kevin Ruddy, Chairman of the Chamber’s Scholarship Committee.
Completed applications must be submitted to The Chamber no later than 5 p.m. on March 31, 2014.
Applicant selection will be made by a panel of local business leaders. Decisions will be based on the application’s completeness and accuracy, student’s transcript, letter of recommendation, and essay response.
Scholarship application can be found online at www.nnchamber.com/scholarship.
