Chefs for the Cure event will serve up fine food to fight breast cancer

Taranta chef Jose Duarte hams it up with a fish. Duarte will participate in the annual Chefs for the Cure event Thursday.

The head chef of the popular North End eatery Taranta will be one of more than a dozen local chefs serving up some of their most piquant dishes Thursday at a charity event to fight breast cancer.

Chef Jose Duarte will prepare a grass-fed beef tenderloin for the fifth annual Chefs for the Cure. The event, to be held at The Residences at W Boston, benefits the Massachusetts affiliate of the national breast cancer organization Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Other notable participating chefs include: Joanne Chang of Myers+Chang, serving a Thai ginger chicken salad with vermicelli noodles; Michael Zentner of Gaslight Brasserie au Coin, serving steak tartare; Brian Reyelt of Citizen Public House & Oyster Bar, serving chilled Duxbury oyster with cucumber gin mignonette; and Richard Garcia of 606 Congress, serving Cape Cod clam ceviche with lime and cilantro.

Chefs for the Cure will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at The Residences at W Boston, 100 Stuart St. in the Theater District. It will include a live raffle and silent auction, with food- and adventure-themed prizes. The event is sponsored in part by Cancer Treatment Centers of America, with media partners CBS Radio and Gatehouse Media.

Tickets cost $125, with proceeds going to Komen Massachusetts to help fund education, screening, and treatment programs; offer grants to community-based groups that support its mission; and help improve the lives of area residents facing breast cancer.
