Norwell EZ Mart robbed by armed bandits
Norwell Police are investigating an armed robbery at EZ Mart convenience store on Washington Street after two suspects smashed open a cash register and fled in a car.
Police said at about 7:15 Monday night, a clerk at the store who was in a back room heard a buzzer that rings when customers enter the store.
The clerk than headed toward the front of the store and saw two white males dressed in black behind the counter trying to open the register’s drawer. Police said the clerk yelled for the two suspects to get out, then left the building through the rear entrance.
A security camera, police said, showed the two suspects enter the store and walk around the counter to the cash register. Police said one of the robbers, who was wearing a Red Sox cap and bandana over his mouth and nose, was carrying a handgun. The other wore a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt.
After failed attempts at opening the drawer, one of the robbers picked up the register and smashed it on the ground, and the pair pocketed an unknown amount of cash.
The clerk reported the robbers left the store and jumped into a two-door green vehicle with green license plates and headed south on Washington Street. Area police were notified and kept watch for the vehicle, but no arrests have been made.
