Police are seeking the public’s help in tracking down a suspect who robbed a gas station while armed with a machete last night.

Norwood Police Department spokesman Kevin Grasso said at 8:47 p.m. the clerk of the Sunoco Gas Station at 518 Boston-Providence Highway reported that a suspect carrying a machete had robbed the gas station.

The clerk described the suspect as a white male with dark, wavy hair, who was wearing a camouflage-type mask and a black sweatshirt.

Grasso said surveillance video shows the suspect pulled up to the gas station as a passenger in a dark-colored four-door vehicle and entered the store. The video shows the suspect was wearing blue jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt, white gloves, and a bandana, and was carrying a large machete, Grasso said.

He said the video shows the suspect was inside the store for less than one minute before fleeing the scene in the waiting vehicle.

If the suspect is apprehended, he faces charges of robbery while being armed and masked, said Grasso.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call Detective Clifford Brown, of the Norwood Bureau of Criminal Investigation, at 781-440-5198.
