A man and a woman were seriously injured when they were struck by a car in downtown Norwood around 11 p.m., police said Friday.

Norwood police spokesman Kevin Grasso said a 29-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were crossing Washington Street between Vernon and Cottages streets when they were hit. Both were taken to a Boston hospital, and remain in serious condition, police said.

A third person who was with the pair at the time of the incident was not injured but was taken to the hospital for emotional distress.

Police said the driver stopped and has been cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Police have not released the identities of those involved. They said the incident appeared accidental. No charges have been filed pending the investigation being done by State Police, Grasso said.
