Norwood police are seeking the public's help in locating a man they believe attacked a woman early Friday.

At around 5 a.m. Friday, police received a report of an attack near Buckminster Drive and Walpole Street, a news release said.

A woman told police she was walking on the sidewalk toward the entrance of Berkshires at Windsor Gardens when a man crossed the road and approached her. The woman said the man then grabbed her around the neck, but she was able to break free after a brief struggle.

The woman suffered minor injuries during the struggle and told police the man fled toward Walpole Street. He was then spotted running from the area by a witness who had heard the woman's screams, police said.

Norwood and Walpole police searched the area, but were unable to locate anyone who matched the description.

The man was described as 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall, thin to medium build, with a medium complexion and wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and dark pants, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the incident should call Detective Richard Giacoppo at 781-440-5195 or Norwood police at 781-440-5100.
