Independence Day events, other happenings around Norwood this week
Norwood’s Independence Day celebrations begin Sunday and continue Monday and Wednesday. Here’s a quick look at those events along with others happening this week around town.
Band Concert: On Sunday, the Sharon Concert Band will perform patriotic songs and show tunes at 7 p.m. at the town common on the corner of Washington and Nahatan streets.
Blood Pressure: A free blood pressure clinic will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 566 Washington Street.
Farmer’s Market: This week’s market at the Town Common on Nahatan Street on Monday will feature a carillon concert by Norwood resident, Lee B. Leach at 3 p.m. A story hour and activities for local children will run from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. The market is held every Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m.
Town Hall Closed: Town Hall will be closed Wednesday in observance of Independence Day.
Two Parades: On Wednesday at 1 p.m. a bicycle, doll carriage, and historical character parade with children and residents dressed as colonial characters will start at the First Congregational Church at Walpole and Winter streets. The parade will wind through town and end at the Town Common. Then at 5:45 p.m., the main parade will start with acts, floats, and marching bands.
Smoking Program: Norwood Hospital will offer a free smoking cessation program Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the hospital, 800 Washington St.
