Two Norwood residents, Moira Herlihy and Jill McCusker, will participate in the 19th annual Boston Harbor 22-mile relay swim on Friday and the 15th annual Department of Conservation and Recreation's Nantasket Beach 1 1/2-mile swim on Saturday.
Both women are swimming the events through the nonprofit Swim Across America, which aims to raise money for cancer awareness and research through swimming-related events around the country.
“The swims are a great way for people to come together and participate in a sport they love alongside Olympic swimming legends while raising critical funds for the David. B. Perini Jr., Quality of Life Clinic at Dana-Farber,” executive director of Swim Across America and 1988 Olympic Silver Medalist Janel Jorgensen McArdle said in a statement.
This year olympians Craig Beardsley and Daniel Waters will also swim at the events which help fundraise money for cancer research through the Dana-Farber Institute.
The Boston Harbor swim starts behind the Boston Harbor Hotel at Rowes Wharf while the Nantasket Beach event starts and ends along the two mile stretch of beach in Hull.
